Announcing the Begin Again Book Club
Join me for a year of deep reading, community, and meaningful conversations.
If you’ve been following my Substack for a while, you know that I love reading.
There’s a real luxury in reading alone—carving out the time to sit with a book and enter a dialogue with it. To allow new ideas in, to feel expanded by mere words on a page, and to fall in love with life again and again due to a new perspective. And sometimes—as I experienced when I first read James Hillman’s The Soul’s Code—to feel so irritated by an idea that you find yourself stomping around the house arguing with the author’s ghost and feeling surprised that you suddenly think that burning books is not such a bad idea after all (no wonder Hillman’s become one of the most important writers for me).
I love reading alone, but I often find myself craving for a space to discuss ideas further, deeper than the echo-chamber of my own consciousness. I’ve toyed for a whole year with the idea of starting a student reading group called “Academic Magic”—a playful (and slightly pompous) name for a group that honours the process of transformation we enter when we truly engage with ideas.
So I’m finally doing it.
So, I’m launching the Begin Again Book Club: a monthly space for paid subscribers who long for thoughtful, lively conversations on consciousness, the unconscious, and the mysteries of being human.
We’ll be reading through works that dive deep into Jungian psychology, psychoanalysis, philosophy, mythology, and dreamwork—books that demand our attention and, at times, our confrontation. This is an invitation to read slowly, to digest ideas, and to meet in conversation with others who are just as hungry for depth.
Each month, we’ll gather for a 90 minute live discussion to reflect on what we’re learning, debate ideas, and share how the material is moving us.
My hope is to create a space where our minds and hearts are set ablaze—not just through intellectual debate, but by engaging with the ideas through art, dreamwork, or any creative process that feels appropriate to you.
This is for those who want to read deeply, think critically, and engage in the kind of conversations that can transform your life.
2025 Books
In choosing the books, I allowed my intuition to guide me toward the volumes that held most energy and curiosity for me. Some of these are new to me, some I’ve read a few times and look forward to return to. I believe all these books have enormous potential to enrich our consciousness and open us up to new perspectives.
Here’s what we’ll be exploring over the year:
March: The Dream and the Underworld – James Hillman
April: Psychedelics and the Soul: A Mythic Guide to Psychedelic Healing, Depth Psychology, and Cultural Repair – Simon Yugler
May-July: Catafalque: Carl Jung and the End of Humanity – Peter Kingsley
August: The Soul of Sex: Cultivating Life As an Act of Love – Thomas Moore
September: The Drama of the Gifted Child: The Search for the True Self – Alice Miller
October-December: The Origins and History of Consciousness – Erich Neumann

That’s a great programme. Would appreciate any non-Amazon suggestions for sourcing the books, particularly Catafalque which seems to be quite tricky to get hold of (I’m in England)
This is exciting!! Was revisiting Dream and the Underworld this past month so this is perfect timing!
